Kandy, 2010.09.04

Lots of attractions to experience in Kandy – we check out the huge Buddha statue located on the top of the hill (with a staircase on his back; from the shoulder level you can admire the beautiful panorama of the town that has kept its provincial character, with lovely walks winding around green hills) as well as the Museum of Archaeology (it is so covered with dust that it can be considered a museum item itself) and the Temple of the Tooth (10US for the entrance, our round ticket does not apply) where every evening a special ceremony is held – presenting the golden urn with the tooth of Buddha inside. The crowds who gather in the temple become driven by some sort of hysteria, pushing their way as close to the sacred object as possible. Beware of “guides” waiting for you in front of the place – it is difficult to rid of them and they will try to charge you after your visit.
