2010 trip – intro

Alright, I thought to myself one day… There is this 21-year old bike in my basement and it has not been in use for more than 10 years… Why not give it a proper test before it dies?

And why not give myself a proper test, too? I’m getting a little fluffy sitting in front of that computer all day. Let’s see how far I can go without any cycling experience whatsoever.

So I got up of my comfy chair, did a couple of crouches to see if my knees were of any use and set off for the trip… OK, I needed a couple more days to prepare my luggage, buy a carrier and get some basic vaccination – rabies and hepatitis. No professional preparation however, no super-duper equipment to pimp my bike (only 5 speeds working out of 18) and no GPS.

Let’s cycle towards Asia – this seems to be a reasonable goal to set – and see if I can make it. No time limits, no exact route set. I’m going there before it’s too late – before I get too rich and fat and busy with my job, family & all other possible responsibilities and unable to take risks or to even think of traveling the hard way.

First stop: Cieszyn, at Polish-Czech border.

Zanim dopadnie mnie tłuszcz, kariera, rodzina i rozsądek:)

Pierwszy przystanek: Cieszyn

  1. Super-dupper equipments gets you lost sometimes. People say that people were traveling since human kinds history even without a compass. They are right but missing something. World is not the same world as that dead guys were traveling. 21st century is more complicated, fast and more confusing. If techs makes our lifes harder, it should offer a solution too. Like GPS or a good printed map or lightweight equipments. I know the feeling of mind blowing coolness of being hard core traveler going with only a day-pack. Suffering makes travel more precious but when I want it, I have a button to shut off the GPS (=
